I am interested in any information regarding these surnames. My paternal gggrandfather was Louis Wells,
b. 1835, in MS, a slave, married to Leah, I don't know if she had a maiden name. They had 13 children.
My ggrandfather, Andy (Andrew) was born in 1854, Smithdale, married Mourning Young in 1874. They had 10
children. Andy died, in 1933. My paternal ggrandfather, Champ Marsalis, b 1848, a slave. He married
Isabella Parks and had 8 children. My maternal gggrandfather was Mat Lowrey, born in MS, married
Mary Travis born in Virginia. I don't know if there were other children. I don't know if they were
slaves. My ggrandfather, James Lowrey was born in 1836 in MS and died 1914. James was not listed on
the 1870 census of Amite, but showed up in 1880 Amite census.He married Adline, don't know her maiden
name. They had 8 children. Adline died abt 1900. James remarried in 1906, to a lady named Viney. My
maternal ggrandfather was Prince Lea, born abt 1844 in MS, a slave. He had a brother Alexander Lea, born
abt 1843 in Virginia. Their parents were born in Virginia. Prince married Frances Davis in 1870, they
had 16 children. Prince and Frances were in Pike county by 1910, all 16 children still alive. I would
appreciate any correspondence from anyone researching these surnames as well as offspring, who may know
something about these surnames.

Looking for anyone researching the STERLING surname. STERLINGS known to
be in Amite Co., MS and married into my RAWLINSON family. Elizabeth
RAWLINSON, daughter of Nathan RAWLINSON and Susannah JOINER, married
Samuel STERLING. Also, Amelia RAWLINSON married James Ashley STERLING.
Amelia may be a daughter of Nathan, unproven. Would like to know more
about the STERLING family migration to MS. I have been told the
STERLINGS migrated all the way from PA to MS with the RANDALL family.
This may be an old tale, but would like to investigate!

Maxfield M. (Monroe?) ANDERSON, SR. (c. 1820-?), the first child of Robert
ANDERSON and Martha STOKES, was born in Amite County MS. He married to
Octavia Leah SCOTT c. 1842/43. She was born c. 1829/30, possibly in Attala
County MS. She lived in Attala County MS at the time of her marriage.
Octavia was the first child [of 8] of Rev. James A. SCOTT, a Primitive Baptist
minister, and Mary (?). CHILDREN: Margaret was born c. 1844 in MS; James E.
"Jimmy" was born 29 Nov 1847 in Attala County MS and died 1 May 1879 in
Angelina County TX; Mary Emily was born c. 1851 in TX and died 15 Oct 1930 in
TX; William L.; and Maxfield M. (Monroe?), Jr. was born 14 Feb 1857 in

ANDERSON and Abigail MAXFIELD. He married Martha STOKES on 12 Feb 1816 in
Amite County MS. Martha STOKES was born c. 1804 in TN. Robert and Martha
purchased land in Amite Co unty MS on 7 Jul 1831 as recorded in Bk 1, p. 229.
Robert was a farmer in 1850 in Attala County MS. Robert and Martha purchased
land in Harrison County, TX on 17 Oct 1855 (Abt. 5 miles S. of Marshall) as
recorded in Bk 0, p 311 - 312. CHILDREN: Maxfield M. [Monroe?]; Frederick
was born about 1832; Layfayett was born about 1838 in Mississippi; and Levy
(female) was born about 1839 in Mississippi. Please contact me if you know

resident of Amite County and he moved there from South Carolina. They were
married on Nov. 18,1813. William Jr. was born on July 3, 1818 in Mississippi

I am researching the genealogy of my ancestors Henry CAUSEY of Liberty, MS, and
his wife Sarah RILEY of Gloster, MS. Probable birth dates are about 1870 to 1880.
Henry's father was Van CAUSEY who was a slave. This information is based on an
interview with John CAUSEY, Henry's son. Sarah's mother was Martha Riley of the
Cherokee nation.

I am trying to find out the correct spelling of Thadious, Thadius, Thaddeus
Ridley Beall. On his tombstone at the Beall/McGehee Cemetery, Amite, MS it reads
Thadious. Maybe you can direct me to a legal paper that would have his correct spelling
In several of the census 1870 etc it spelled Thadius. In my records I spelled it Thaddeus.
He was b. 25 Aug 1847 Amite County, MS married 10 Mar 1867 Jane Ophelia McGehee and
died 25 May 1926 McComb, Amite County, Mississippi. He was my wife Grandfather.
If you have any additional information on the Beall I would appreciate receiving it.
Thad father was Elisha Beall b. 1812 Georgia m. Chlorinda Brown and died in MS.
I have not been able to prove Elisha Father, however I think that it might have been
General William Beall b. NC Died in GA m. Elizabeth Gray.

COWARD told me that she had found reference to one of the daughters of
Needham M. COWARD who married a MARSALIS with no first name for either
one of them. I have found in the 1860 Amite Co MS Census Ephraim
MARSALIS age 51 b Gra?, wife Letitia 40 b MS. In the 1870 Census Pike
Co MS Ephraim MARSALIS 59 b GA and wife Lucretia MARSALIS 50 b MS. In
the 1860 Amite Co Census there are two KINNABREW children in the
household, Augusta 12 and Louisiana 14 both b MS. In the 1870 Pike Co
Census there are a James and a Louisiana KINNEBREW in the MARSALIS
household. James is 19 b MS and Louisiana is 21 b MS. Have noted the
MARSALIS children in those two census records. Will be glad to name
them if desired.
